Gatinois Champagne Grand Cru Brut 2002

The beautiful 2002 vintage Champagne from Gatinois, who uses mainly Pinot Noir in his wines.  93 points from Wine Advocate in the Dec 2008 issue:

"The estate’s 2002 Brut Grand Cru possesses remarkable richness in perfumed Pinot fruit. The wine blossoms on the palate with compelling layers of red berries, chalkiness and biscuit. This sappy, generous offering shows superb depth and a long, finessed finish. The 2002 Brut Grand Cru is 90% Pinot Noir and 10% Chardonnay from Ay that spent 5 years on its lees prior to being disgorged in February, 2008 and bottled with 6 grams of dosage. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2017.

This is a striking set of wines from Gatinois, a small domaine located in Ay, a village that is especially renowned for the quality of its Pinot Noir. Proprietor Pierre Cheval-Gatinois prefers stainless steel for most of his wines although a portion of the Brut Grand Cru sees oak. These are beautiful, transparent wines endowed with notable personality and sheer class"

The Gatinois champagnes are produced in the town of Ay.
